Resources for Learning Disabilities

 

·        LD Online - Perhaps one of the most widely known websites for learning differences, LD Online has a wealth of resources for both educators and parents.  Included are articles, news updates, informative sections for various disabilities, (including ADHD), bulletin boards for educators and parents, expert advice, information en espanol, and -of course!- a store. www.LDonline.org 

 

·        Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) - A driving force in special education, both in terms of research and legislation.  Here, you can access articles from both of the CEC's publications, including Teaching Exceptional Children and Exceptional Children.  This websites guides you through the various special interest divisions of the Special Education umbrella: Assistive Technology, Emotional and Behavioral Disorders, Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Career Development and Transition, and so on. www.cec.sped.org 

 

·        Learning Disabilities Association of America - This is a very comprehensive site for parents, teachers, and other professionals. This is an organization that even has state-level chapters.  www.LDnatl.org

 

·        Council for Learning Disabilities – An international organization that promotes new research and effective current issues, along with ways to teach individuals with specific learning disabilities.  CLDinternational.org

 

·        Division for Learning Disabilities – This is “an international group of teachers, university professors, and researchers who work to improve education for people with learning disabilities.  It is a part of the Council for Exceptional Children.  TeachingLD.org

 

·        National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) – Provides resources and information, gives insight into life with learning disabilities for various populations, and a section for advocacy.  NCLD works to “strengthen public policy initiatives that affects the lives of individuals with learning disabilities.” www.ld.org

 

·        Kids Keep Learning – This is a new online initiative that empowers parents and teachers to express their opinions and concerns about the upcoming reauthorization of IDEA.  The project is underwritten by the National Center for Learning Disabilities.  KidsKeepLearning.org

 

·        National Dissemination for Children with Disabilities (NICHCY) – Serves as a “source of information on disabilities in infants, toddlers, and youth; Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); No Child Left Behind; and research-based information on effective educational practices.” www.nichcy.org 

 

·        No Child Left Behind (NCLB) – The government website informing the public about the sweeping legislation of NCLB.  Includes the following features: teacher toolkit and parent guide, funding facts, information on schools, and a place for teachers to share ideas for implementation.  www.nochildleftbehind.gov

 

·        The Haan Foundation for Children - dedicated to all children at risk for reading failure and learning difficulties. It works to unify the endeavors of scientific research, education practice, and technology toward the assurance that children are given the opportunity to learn to their capacity and thus achieve their true potential in life.  www.haan4kids.org
